Civic Center Eats, the weekly gathering in Civic Center Park hosted by the Civic Center Conservancy, has been such a hit this year that it was continued long past its original end date in August — and it’s definitely the place to be on this last Tuesday of the summer (and possibly the last day of 90 degree heat).
Last week, I dropped in for some tea from the Paris on the Platte truck, watermelon soup with feta from Ian Kleinman and his Inventing Room, and a spicy chicken sandwich from GastroCart, started by former cooks at Table 6. There were dozens of other options, many of them from the mobile trucks and carts that have been the biggest culinary trend of 2010 in this city.
Even tastier than the food offerings, though, was the conversation with friends old and new. It was like catching up on the the first day of school.
Civic Center Eats runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, and will continue into October.
