John McCain stood up to his North Vietnamese interrogators, but he caved last month when an elderly supporter asked, “How do we beat the bitch?” Rather than refuse to answer the query (or point out that she wouldn’t ask “How do we beat the prick?”), he called it an “excellent question” — and ever since, this country has been on a bitch-hunt.
A few days ago, I was on Peter Boyles’s radio show, discussing a transgression that crosses party lines — the accessing of confidential federal files by Democrats as well as Republican operatives — and midway through the conversation, Boyles got an e-mail: “Get the queen bitch off the air.”
If you can stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
When it comes to powerful women who bring out the B-word, I’m not even a lady-in-waiting, much less a princess, much less the queen who’s really inspired the resurgence of bitching. But even Hillary Clinton does not rank in the Top Ten Queen Bitches of History. Here, in ascending order, is our list:
