Denver’s 48 Hour Film Project, in which teams of filmmakers complete entire projects in a single weekend, unveils this year’s batch of insta-movies during three separate screenings on Sunday, August 10, at the Gothic Theatre, with a wrap party later that night at the Falcon; click here for details. In the meantime, a sneak preview is already available by way of The Humanitarian Candidate, which was posted on YouTube mere hours after its August 3 completion. The short, written and directed by Lyman Smith, Darin Foat, James Dare and Ben Eslinger, is a witty political satire in which the protagonist’s secret plan for change turns out to be more radical, and much messier, than anyone could have anticipated.
