The end of the Lab, at least as we know it, is nigh. And nothing could make that more apparent than a garage sale, where, yes, everything must go! But count on Adam Lerner to take his little Lakewood contemporary art museum out with a bang, before proceeding to restructure and merge with the Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver.
In the meantime, kick off your Saturday morning at the Lab Garage Sale, where the usual suspects — furniture, fixtures, equipment and electronics — will be for sale at cut-rate prices, along with the secretive come-on of “random silly Lab stuff,” during standard garage-sale hours between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. And plan to return in the evening for an event to remember: The closing party for The Astounding Problem of Andrew Novick, which will include live bidding on selected items from the exhibit — essentially an astonishing showcase of stuff assembled by obsessive collector Novick that caught our eye when it opened, and even that of CBS’s Steve Hartman. The event’s from from 6 to 9 p.m. Along with the auction, there will be a cereal and cupcake bar provided by the Shoppe and a brand new, limited-edition 100-page show catalogue crammed with photographs. Admission is $5 at the door; the Lab is at 404 S. Upham Street in Belmar. Log on to the Lab’s website or call 303-934-1777 for details.
