As if the Friday murders of Justin O’Donnell and Deon Rudd, plus the Saturday slaying of Richard Nack, didn’t create enough bloodshed for the Memorial Day weekend, yet another homicide took place in Aurora late last night.
The victim has not yet been identified, by the sickening circumstances have been.
According to the Aurora Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired at around 11:45 p.m. last night by rushing to an area near East Alameda Avenue and South Ironton Street. Upon their arrival, they found what’s described as a trail of debris leading from the south side of Alameda to the north. That led them to a vehicle that had come to a stop on an Ironton sidewalk just north of the intersection.
A man was inside the vehicle but unresponsive, so police broke a window, unlocked the doors and pulled him outside — at which point they discovered that he’d been shot. Cops and paramedics managed to keep him alive for a short while, but shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital, he was declared dead.

At this point, APD reps believe the as-yet-unidentified victim had been parked in a lot at 306 South Ironton when he was shot. He was able to drive only a short distance before first losing control of the car, and then losing consciousness.
At this point, police aren’t naming any suspects, although they believe the incident is isolated.

Editor’s note, 8:59 a.m. May 29: The Denver coroner’s spokesperson has just revealed that the victim’s name in an Alaska Place shooting referenced above was Richard Nack, not Richard Mack, as the office originally claimed. We’ve corrected the reference in this post.
