Yesterday, we told you about vandalism at Isis Books & Gifts, a longtime South Broadway staple named for the Egyptian goddess, not the terrorist group that’s claimed responsibility for the recent attacks in Paris.
This incident frustrated plenty of our readers — among them two moms who know all about negative reactions related to the moniker.
That’s because they named their respective daughters Isis long before they could have known the impact on their lives it would have.

I named my daughter Isis also after the Egyptian goddess, she was born in 2004 long before the world ever knew of a terrorist group being called ISIS. And my poor daughter gets a lot of grief about it. It’s pretty annoying.

My daughter’s name is Isis, too. She was born in 2007 and she has gotten grief in the past. It’s subsided but I still get sideways looks when I say her name. People are jerks. The media are idiots and Daesh is what it’s always been, which is Daesh.
