Today Governor Bill Ritter signed Senate Bill 07-197 into law, which will guarantee the anonymity of callers to the Safe2Tell hotline set up in response to the Columbine Commission’s recommendations.
People can call 1-877-542-SAFE to report any threats or bullying.
Bullying, which is often cited as the cause of such tragedies as Columbine, spawned an anti-bullying industry which is seemingly again picking up steam in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. There’s been two conferences in Colorado in the past two weeks to teach teachers and administrators how to battle bullies.
Whether or not the anti-bullying industry will have another explosive demand for its services, as it did right out of Colorado’s economy after Columbine, remains to be seen. But as long as there’s threats of random violence, someone will always try to offer peace, for a price. –Luke Turf
