Late Monday evening, Raymond Rivera, 48, tried to cross Harlan Street at Alameda Avenue. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it — and the vehicle that struck him didn’t stop.
According to the Lakewood Police Department, Rivera was struck by a van driven by 48-year-old Thomas William Boyle, who was later booked for felony hit and run, driving under the influence, careless driving and vehicular homicide.

Fatal Auto Pedestrian AccidentDate: November 17, 2009
A male pedestrian died last night from injuries he received as a result of being hit by a vehicle while trying to cross Harlan Street, at Alameda Avenue. The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Raymond Rivera (11-08-61) of Denver.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM last night. Rivera was hit by a white Ford van that was northbound on Harlan St. The vehicle then left the scene of the accident. Witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle.
A short time later, a Lakewood Police Agent stopped the vehicle on 3rd Avenue west of Sheridan Blvd. The driver of the hit and run vehicle was identified as 48-year-old Thomas William Boyle (12-15-60). Agents on scene suspected that alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident, however toxicology results are pending. Boyle was taken into custody and later booked on charges of Vehicular Homicide, Felony Hit & Run, DUI and Careless Driving. Further charges may be pending. Boyle will make his first appearance in Jefferson County Court at later date.
