Talk about a grim discovery. Westminster police reportedly found the mummified remains of a newborn infant, with a portion of its umbilical cord still attached, in a suitcase at the home of Melinda Hudson, 25.
Hudson is said to have previously denied that she was pregnant. But this was no cheesy reality show.
Although the child’s body was found in March, Krista Flannigan, spokesperson for the Adams County District Attorney’s Office, says a grand jury didn’t finalize its conclusions until July 20. The grand jury indicted Hudson on four charges: child abuse knowingly or recklessly resulting in death and child abuse negligently causing death (both felonies), plus concealing a body and abuse of a corpse (a pair of misdemeanors).
At this point, most documents related to the case remain sealed. That means more details about this tremendously grim case will likely begin coming out at 8:30 a.m. on October 6, when a review hearing is scheduled.
