According to Grand Junction’s Daily Sentinel newspaper, state senate minority leader Josh Penry, who represents GJ, is planning an announcement on Saturday, July 11, in regard to speculation that he will run for governor — and there are three big indications that he’ll officially enter the fray: 1) He let the hometown newspaper know about the press event almost a week in advance; 2) The backdrop is the Mesa County courthouse — the sort of setting that politicos love for moments like these; and 3) His family will be with him, and no one trots out kin to say they’re not taking the plunge.
If Penry does indeed pull the campaign trigger, he’ll be facing off in the primary against Scott McInnis, who hasn’t exactly convinced the GOP establishment of his formidability. (His latest blunder: A photo on the landing page of McInnis’ website featured a scenery shot from Canada, not Colorado.) The smart money’s betting that Penry and McInnis won’t be posing for another shot like the one above anytime soon.
