Yesterday, we told you about a weekend kidnapping near Peak to Peak Highway — the third assault on Boulder County nature lovers in June. Hours later, following the release of a suspect sketch, authorities came upon Joseph Scott Carter, a local transient who’s been arrested as a suspect in the case. With the bust of Michael Gonzales-Davis in a previous incident, that leaves just one alleged attacker still at large — but hikers and joggers aren’t resting easy yet. Today, at approximately 3:55 p.m., a Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy contacted a male party near the 37.5 mile marker of Peak to Peak Highway. The male’s appearance was similar to that of the suspect in the kidnappings that occurred on Saturday. Further investigation led deputies to believe that this person was responsible for the kidnappings and he was arrested and taken to the Boulder County Jail.The arrestee was identified as Joseph Scott Carter, DOB August 8, 1967, a local transient that has been camping in the area for the last couple of weeks.
Mr. Carter is being charged with two counts of Second Degree Kidnapping, a class two felony, two counts of Felony Menacing, a class five felony, and two counts of False Imprisonment, a class five felony.
Since this is an open and continuing investigation Mr. Carter’s booking photograph will not be released at this time.
