Update: The Denver coroner’s office has identified the man killed July 4 on the 3200 block of Dahlia Street as Dominick Johnson, 28. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at Denver Health Medical Center.

Update, 12:22 p.m. July 5: The Denver Police Department has released more information about a shooting last night on the 3200 block of Dahlia Street.
The DPD isn’t naming the victim or possible suspects. But we now know the shooting appears to have come as a result of a 4th of July party gone wrong.

According to DPD spokesman Detective John White, the victim got into an altercation with one or more people at the bash. He then moved to a nearby parking lot, where he was shot following a confrontation with two suspects. He was pronounced dead at Denver Health.

Original item, 8:48 a.m. July 5: For a while, it looked as if we might get through the 4th of July weekend without a violent death.
But no: Last night, a man was shot dead on the 3200 block of Dahlia Street, and Denver Police spokesman Detective John White says a homicide investigation is underway.
At this point, White is providing few details, beyond the time police responded to the call — 9:51 p.m. — and the fact that the male victim was transported from the scene only to subsequently be pronounced dead. He believes more details should be forthcoming.
