Pioneers of grindcore in Colorado from 1990 to 1996, Pueblo’s Fanatics inspired a generation of hardcore kids with their fun, impassioned live shows and clever, socially conscious lyrics. The band’s sole full-length album, 1994’s Better Than Fried Baloney, is a classic of Colorado punk rock filled with thoughtful, introspective songs performed with power and conviction. The band reunited for a short series of shows in the summer of 2008 and have since kept going. Addressing corporate greed, social conformity and the unsavory aspects of pop culture with the same level of zeal and intensity they displayed in its heyday, the Fanatics (due on Friday, April 16, at the Wasteland) continue to be a force with which to be reckoned. Putting out their first record in sixteen years, a split with Reform Control, the Fanatics are as relevant now as ever.
