Ali Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi, better known as Deep Dish, made their initial mark in the ’90s as deep-house producers and DJs — despite the fact that the two have never aligned themselves with any one specific genre or scene. Although Shirazinia and Tayebi’s productions take on the epic, soulful characteristics common to house’s disco antecedent (like last year’s hit “Flashdance”), it’s their knack for genre-splicing that makes them sound so fresh with every release. The pair received a Grammy for its remix work on Madonna’s Music in 2001, and other artists such as Tori Amos and Janet Jackson have tapped Deep Dish for its remixing skills. Still finding time for DJ gigs across the globe, Deep Dish is slated to appear at Vinyl this Saturday, January 22.
