New York, Detroit and Chicago are usually credited as birthplaces of modern dance music, but the sounds coming from Miami over the course of the past decade have done just as much to shape the culture. Take, for example, the output of Miami’s Edgar V, who is slated to make an appearance at Club Vinyl this Saturday, December 18: Having spent years cutting his teeth as a crowd favorite in his home town, he made a name for himself by pushing the sounds of progressive house and trance in some of Miami’s top clubs, such as Liquid and Club Space. It wasn’t long before word spread, and thanks to Trancemission, a mix CD released by Club Space, he was soon in demand from coast to coast. Edgar’s blend of complex melodies and hard-edged beats have trance-formed him into a big-time, globe-trotting DJ sharing the decks with the likes of Tiesto and Paul Oakenfold at clubs and festivals the world over.
