Dubstep just might be the new trance, and in case you’ve been under a rock for the past three years or so, take note: The Denver/Boulder area represents dubstep like few other major metropolitan areas, and acts like Robotic Pirate Monkey are a big reason why. Robo-Pi-Mo, as it’s affectionately known by its fans, comprises artists Matt Berryhill, Matt Flesher and Andrew Hathaway, who’ve been mashing up, remixing and producing whompy goodness since last year; their remix of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” is a good example of what you can expect from the group. Although Robo-Pi-Mo hasn’t been around for long, it’s already embarked on a West Coast tour and played several shows at the Fox in Boulder; you can get your wobbly, bass-heavy dubstep fix on Friday, July 8, at the Bluebird — Robo-Pi-Mo’s first big Denver gig — and next weekend at the Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks.
