In this economy, it’s hard to begrudge anyone trying to make a buck. Most rock stars, though, only want to rape your wallet — not molest your memories. Open Wings Broken Strings teams up three of the least essential singers of the alt-rock era — Eddie (formerly Ed; apparently Eddie has more of a Vedder-ish ring to it) Kowalczyk of Live, Art Alexakis of Everclear and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer — for an acoustic package tour that sounds about as exciting as a steaming plate of microwaved leftovers. On his website, Alexakis writes, “We’re playing all the songs you know and love and sharing the stories behind them in a really unique and compelling way.” Too bad the songs themselves won’t be remotely unique or compelling. The only thing open during Open Wings Broken Strings will be your checkbook; the only thing broken will be your last vestige of nostalgia for the ’90s.
