“Big” Jon Platt has been promoted to president of Warner/Chapell Music. Before earning his new position, the Montbello-bred music mogul, who got his start deejaying parties locally and has been a revered figure in the music industry for nearly two decades, was president of creative for Warner/Chappell. And prior to making that move last year, Platt was at EMI for seventeen years, where he built a storied career.

In the past two decades, Platt has set up publishing deals for a parade of top-shelf acts, including Jay Z, Kanye, Snoop, Drake, Beyonce and Usher, among others. Earlier this year, Complex gave him a nod as the eighth-most-powerful person in rap, and in a statement released last week, Cameron Strang, the chairman/chief executive officer of Warner Bros. Records, who hired Platt last year and gave him his recent promotion, described him as a “once-in-a-generation executive and a terrific leader, with a deep understanding of the artistic process.”
