The band hasn’t played a show yet. In fact, it’s only practiced four times. So why do we care about For Pop Sake already? It’s partly the pedigree: John Fate, formerly of the Pseudo Dates and currently of Jim McTurnan & The Kids That Killed The Man, alerted us to his new project last weekend. The ensemble is made up of him on drums and members of Portamento on a pair of guitars and a bass. Everyone sings.
For Pop Sake came together because Portamento frontman Alex plays in an ensemble at UCD with Fate. The two got together with other members of Alex’s band for a jam session, during which they came up with a band name and two songs, including “Sincerely Yours,” which you can hear after the jump.
It’s a demo, obviously, and the song will surely evolve between now and when they get a proper recording down, but you can get a pretty good idea of where these guys are headed. As you would expect based on their name, it’s way poppier than Portamento’s stuff, but there’s still plenty of distortion on the guitars. The most important thing to remember here is that these guys have played together exactly four times, and they already sound like something worth paying attention to.
