This isn’t exactly Mr. Van Driessen’s New Age Drum Circle for Men out in the woods. Oh, sure, the members of Foot Village perform in a big circle and they’re all playing drums, but there’s none of that namby-pamby, faux-civil keep-things-down-so-as-not-to-disturb-the-neighbors thing going on. Foot Village is more a raw, joyful and cathartic experience than it is strictly a band. There’s a sense of the tribal in each of the collective’s shows, so maybe the new-age element is still there, but it isn’t tempered by misguided notions of arbitrary behavioral standards. If you’re a bit of a stick in the mud, you won’t have fun at this show, but if you’re willing to get swept up in the moment, run, don’t walk.
