Sure, it’s winter, but just because there’s a chill in the air doesn’t mean that we stop craving ice cream. For proof, just look in my freezer. Nonetheless, the crew from Sweet Action Ice Cream, one of the most popular ice cream spots in the city, is on a month-long holiday according to the sign posted on its door, which reads like a dramatic tearful farewell. And yesterday, when two mothers with their kids in tow hovered in front of the door, their kids were more than tearful: They were downright icy, screaming at the top of their lungs, while their poor moms cursed in mutual fury. The parlor will reopen on February 1 at 1 p.m., but if you can’t wait that long, you can buy pints of Sweet Action ice cream at Curtis Park Delicatessen, Denver Urban Homesteading, Fluid Coffee Bar, Hooked On Colfax, the Humble Pie Store, Lucky’s Market in Boulder and Longmont, the Uptown location of Marczyk Fine Foods, Nooch | Vegan Market, Pete’s Fruits & Vegetables, and at all Tony’s Market locations.

But, really, who the hell takes a month’s vacation? At least take the advice of a Facebook commenter, who coughed up this suggestion: “You should close in February instead, less time without Sweet Action for the people.”
