Sean Kenyon is back from one of his many trips as this state’s premier alcohol ambassador, pulling together the final details of the Colorado Cocktail Contest and offering some advice about making margaritas — just in time for the warmer weather.

Who makes a great margarita in Denver? Here’s Mantanot’s suggestion:

I order sotol margaritas at Lola – made exactly like your first recipe only with Hancienda de Chihuahua sotol. I like mine up and also love the sea salt they use at Lola. For some reason the margarita has evolved into a Big Gulp-sized drink that has more in common with Country Time lemonade. And no matter how big they are, you still only get one shot of tequila in it. I bet 8-10 bucks buys you a lot of margarita mix.

Our on-line Best of Denver 2011 readers’ poll closed at midnight last night; soon we’ll know what’s been voted the readers’ choice for the Best House Margarita.
