If you’re heading out for a morning-after brunch, don’t stop by Pete’s Cafe & Steak House. After 44 years, Pete Gatseos has closed his little cafe at 514 East Colfax Avenue — although the family will continue to operate one in Thornton. Says Jenn:
This was the first place I went when I came to Denver in ’96! Later in life took my kids there almost every Sunday. Best hole in the wall ever.

Although Pete’s Kitchen didn’t make our recent list of the Twelve Best Restaurants on Colfax Avenue, the 24/7 spot is a Denver institution. And there are definitely other worthy restaurants along the country’s longest main street, including the Denver Biscuit Company. As JC notes:
Colfax has been known as one of the li’l gems of Denver…often gets a bad rap. Too bad for them — missing out on “real” Denver.
