La Sandia Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar opens to the public today, but it already got a workout last night, when hundreds of people flocked to the stylish space at the edge of the Vistas at Park Meadows.

La Sandia certainly got the best view in the vast Vistas at the back of the shopping center, a panorama of the foothills that you can enjoy from a ground-floor patio with a wood-burning fireplace or the rooftop lounge. But there was also plenty to see just in the invitation-only crowd, particularly as the margaritas (mango!) kept flowing and people tried to cozy up to Placido Domingo, a partner in the enterprise.

Richard Sandoval is the chef and owner of Modern Mexican Restaurants, which brought Tamayo to Denver in 2001; Zengo followed in 2004. He first partnered with Domingo five years ago on the coastal-Mexican restaurant Pampano in New York; the two later paired to open Zengo’s second location in Washington, D.C., and they’re now partners on every new project.

Including the area’s second La Sandia. The first opened in Stapleton last year, and there’s a third in Virginia.

And from the vantage of the Vistas, they’re looking good.
