Last fall, when the Lancer Lounge suddenly closed, Bonanno Concepts was quick to grab the space between the flagship Mizuna and Bones and turn it into Vesper Lounge, a bar that was initially envisioned as a place where diners could wait for a table in one of those restaurants — but has become a neighborhood destination in itself, as Gretchen Kurtz reports in this week’s review of Vesper. Kurtz was especially taken with the bar’s tater tots, which also made our list of the best tater tots in town. Also this week, Lori Midson talked to Nadine Donovan, pastry chef at Old Major, for Chef and Tell. And in A Federal Case, Mark Antonation finally reached El Taco Veloz, where he tested his theory that the more hand-written signs you see in a restaurant, the better the food.

Also on Cafe Society this week, we reported that Denver International Airport was named the airport with the healthiest food in the country. And we also learned what Frank Bonanno likes best about the ten Bonanno Concept restaurants. In other news:

Opening This Week:
Bonefish Grill in Lakewood
Cafe 180 kiosk on the 16th Street Mall
Grand Cru in Greenwood Village
Grist Brewing in Highlands Ranch
Happy Cakes in Longmont

Reopening This Week:
Spirit Hound Distillery in Lyons

Closing This Week:

Ya Hala on South Colorado Boulevard
Hops Grillhouse and Brewery in Littleton
Chino Latino in the Ballpark neighborhood
