Does your pale ale go down better with some Poe, your stout with some Silverstein and your lager with some Longfellow? If so, then you and your favorite iambic pentameters might want to try Liquid Poetry, a special beer that goes on tap today at the Wynkoop Brewing Company in honor of National Poetry Month.
The malty Irish red-style beer was made by Wynkoop head brewer Andy Brown in collaboration with Denver Poet Laureate and homebrewer Chris Ransick, and inspired by Ransick’s recent trip to Galway, Ireland.
For $5, Wynkoop customers can get a glass of Liquid Poetry in a commemorative glass that features Ransick’s new beer poem, “Red Blessing.”
But the beer is just the warm-up for the Wynkoop’s second annual Liquid Poetry event this Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. There you’ll find “beer-minded poetry” written and read by Ransick and other locals, including Lighthouse Writers co-founder Mike Henry, J. Diego Frey, Aaron Anstett and Catherine O’Neill Thorne.
