One of the biggest oddities in the Colorado beer-drinking world will be remedied on April 2 when The Pub at the Boulder Beer Company finally opens for business on Saturdays.
Until now, the pub, which is located in a Boulder business park and serves sandwiches, salads, burgers, burritos and the famous Planet Porter Shake, had only been open on weekdays, which made it difficult for anyone to visit from out of town — or even from Denver.
“It just wasn’t profitable on the weekends,” says Boulder Beer spokesman Dan Weitz, adding that the majority of its restaurant business came from nearby workers. “But that was ten years ago. Now we are a destination, and we are almost always busy.”
As the brewery increased production and began shipping beer like Hazed & Infused to other states, beer tourists began pouring in and looking to Boulder Beer as a destination.

It also means that the brewery itself is now running on the weekends. In past years, the company was able to shut down completely on Saturdays and Sundays (“We like our playtime,” Weitz says.) Now that employees are brewing on Saturdays, liquor license rules require that the restaurant be open on Saturdays as well.
This Saturday will be the first one, and Boulder Beer will celebrate with live music, happy hour prices all day and $3 pints; Saturday hours are noon to 8 p.m.
