Many of the individual events that comprise the Wild West Weekend have been taking place in Estes Park for years, but in 2013, they were rolled up into a single weekend for the first time and presented as a group. This year’s version of the extravaganza begins again today.
An arts-and-crafts show and Colorado Senior Pro Charity Rodeo ($15 for adults, kids $5) will ensure that there’s plenty to do and see throughout the weekend, and tonight’s extra activities round out the fun – the Rocky Mountain Chuck Wagon Dinner ($20 adults, $10 for kids), where wagons will serve up a traditional meal, and the John Denver Tribute Concert. After the dinner, a John Denver lookalike will take the stage for a tribute concert ($20). “The chuck wagon dinner is a great Western experience,” says spokeswoman Brooke Burnham. “The wagons are something that’s really unique to this part of the country, and it’s a fun thing for the kids to see, too.
“We hold a special place in our heart for John Denver here in Colorado, and a very special musician who lives here in Estes Park does a great tribute…so it’s a time for people to come and celebrate the life of John Denver right here in the Rocky Mountains,” Burnham says.
