Poor Felix Gomez. When we first met the paranormal private detective in Denverite Mario Acevedo‘s debut novel, The Nymphos of Rocky Flats, he’d returned from a tour of duty in Iraq as a vampire and was attempting to discover what was behind a murderous conspiracy and outbreak of nymphomania at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Rocky Flats nuclear-weapons plant.

It’s all in a day’s work for Gomez; in the followup to Nymphos, X-Rated Bloodsuckers, he’s hired by porn star Katz Meow, who wants him to find the person who murdered her close friend and co-star, Roxy Bronze.

So what’s new for Gomez in The Undead Kama Sutra, the third book in the series? “There’s an alien who’s murdered,” Acevedo explains, “and with this alien’s dying breath, he hires Felix to catch the man who killed him, sending Felix on an adventure, a conspiracy where he finds out that there are alien gangsters in cahoots with our government. He has to find out what the conspiracy is about, to his detriment.

“He does survive the story,” assures Acevedo, “but it takes a toll on him. I’m writing, and I’m saying, ‘This is a guy that I know, and I’m doing all these terrible things to him to make the story work.'” Acevedo’s contract has just been renewed, so the hero is not on his way out quite yet; readers can still expect two more Felix Gomez novels.
