There are burlesque girls and there are legends. No question about which category Satan’s Angel, the Devil’s Own Mistress, Queen of the Fire Tassels belongs to. Perhaps the greatest tassel-twirler alive, 66-year-old Angel Cecelia Helene Walker retired at her prime, but decided to hit the road again in 2002, to do what no one else in their right mind would do: light her formidable “assets” on fire. And twirl like crazy.
Yes, it’s a sight to behold:
That noted, it’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight: Satan’s Angel is here to help light a fire under the Colorado Burlesque Festival, and to that end, she’ll perform tonight at a fundraiser with a bevy of local beauties, including Lola Spitfire, Fannie Spankings and more, as well as host Naughty Pierre at the Summit Music Hall, 1902 Blake Street, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $20 (or $30 for VIP seating). An after-party with the legend follows at 11:30 p.m. at HER Bar, 629 Colfax Avenue, and is free with your ticket stub.
Tomorrow, the fiery one offers a master class for serious burlesquers at Lannie’s, 1601 Arapahoe Street, from 2 to 4 p.m. (email Lola Spitfire for information and registration), and she’ll finish up her stay with an evening reprise at Beauty Bar, 608 E. 13th Avenue; admission is $5 at the door. Try not to break the glass on the fire extinguisher, boys and girls.
