These days, most peoples’ wallets are on a diet — which can make going out to the theater a financial gluttony to be regretted the next morning. Not so with An Absurd Evening of Absurd Theatre.
“We will not produce a show with a budget of more than $1,000,” says Melissa Leach of the Three Leaches Theater Company, which is producing the show. “This not only allows us to keep low ticket prices, but also stretches our imaginations and forces us to be creative as actors and directors.”
For $9, you can enjoy three new plays — Under My Box Spring; Sir Ronald DeMimsy Esq.,Desert Explorer; and The Boy Who Knew No Fear. After hosting a short play competition, the folks at the Three Leaches narrowed down eighty scripts and found these three gems. “In these plays, we see a seductive bedbug, a talking, literate mule, and a man split in two trying to attack two innocent travelers,” says Leach.
The absurdity begins with two performances tonight, at 7 and 8:30 p.m., and continues on Sunday at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at the Voodoo Comedy Playhouse, 1260 22nd Street. Go to www.thethreeleaches.com for more information.
