No one does creepy and surreal quite like Neil Gaiman. So it’s easy to see why his latest book is so hotly anticipated — and so far, it’s received glowing reviews from Peter S. Beagle (who wrote The Last Unicorn) and Holly Black (co-creator of The Spiderwick Chronicles).
The Graveyard Book (a deliberate riff on Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book) follows the story of Bod, aka Nobody, a boy who has grown up in a graveyard since the murder of his family. The dead agree to watch after Bod — who, after all, is still in danger. Every Man Jack, who killed Bod’s sleeping family and still seeks Bod’s death, is a murderous mystery whose presence threatens Bod’s very existence.
Gaiman reads from The Graveyard Book this evening at 6:30 p.m. at Unity of Boulder Church, 2855 Folsom Avenue in Boulder, as part of the Boulder Book Store’s 35th anniversary celebrations.
