National radio program The Moth will land in Denver tonight for the inaugural Denver Moth StorySLAM, an open-mike storytelling competition. Hopeful storytellers can put their names in a hat, and ten lucky people will be chosen to take the stage, where their stories will be scored by judges from the audience. At the end of the night, a StorySLAM winner will be chosen to go on to the GrandSLAM national championship.
“Since its launch in 1997, The Moth has presented thousands of stories, told live and without notes, to standing-room-only audiences worldwide,” according to themoth.org. “Moth shows are renowned for the great range of human experience they showcase. Each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways.”
Appropriately enough, the theme for the first Denver Moth StorySLAM is “firsts”; there will be additional slams on November 21 and December 19.
