The Golden Cemetery Tours have risen from the dead. “A lot of people have asked about them,” says Christina Vandoloski, spokeswoman for the Golden History Center, which produced the tours before they went on hiatus a few years ago. “We did a member survey, and they wanted to know where the cemetery tours went!”

Now they’re back today and next Saturday, with tours leaving every half-hour from 2 until 3:30 p.m., and again from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Along the way, participants will hear ghost stories about such Golden residents as Oscar Goetze, who ran the Astor House and worked at the Golden Transcript newspaper, and fourteen-year-old Willie Russell, who died as a result of an accident at the Golden paper mill. “We have volunteers come, and they either act as tour guides or will portray the ghost persona,” Vandoloski explains. “They’ll stand next to the tombstone and talk about the life of the person and how they died.”

To get spooked, go to the Golden History Center, 923 10th Street in Golden. Tours are $12 for members, $15 for the general public, and kids five and younger are free; call 303-278-3557 or visit www.goldenhistorymuseums.org for more information.
