When Women’s Bean Project was hiring in June, over 150 women showed up hoping to find work and career training. Only twenty of them were hired. Bean Project hopes to provide jobs for women who can’t find them. Many have to rely on welfare. Some have a hard time overcoming past felonies.
“These are women with skills who really want to work,” says Bean Project’s Brittny Wilson. However, Bean Project just doesn’t have more positions. They could though, if they have more sales.
That’s where you come in. Today, Saturday and Sunday, there’s a sale at the Women’s Bean Project facilities at 3201 Curtis Street. You’ll walk through the processing facilities and be able to see the women of the non-profit working before arriving at the retail shop.
Open for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be hot chocolate and samples of the foods for sale: soups, cookies, dip mixes, spice rubs, baking mixes and more. A bag of soup mix — their most famous is a ten bean soup and their newest is a Giada De Laurentiis created lentil soup — is just $5.75. Bonus, most of the soups are gluten-free and most can be prepared vegetarian-friendly. There will also be gift baskets for holiday gift-giving.

Jewelry conceptualized by two professional designers and then manufactured by the women of Bean Project will also be for sale. And Santa will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
