When Boulder-based performance artist Gemma Wilcox first caught Mike Mathieu and Andrew Connor, aka the Cody Rivers Show, while traveling the fringe circuit with her own acts, she was floored by what she saw. “Their level of performance really blew my mind,” Wilcox remembers. “They are a sketch-comedy troupe unlike any that I’ve ever seen.”

So tonight at 7:30 p.m., Wilcox is trading in her performer’s hat for a producer’s and bringing The Cody Rivers Show in: Right Back Where We Finished to the Nomad Theatre, 1410 Quince Avenue in Boulder. And she’s backing this new production, described as “like running a marathon, doing algebra and eating cake at the same time,” sight unseen. “Basically, I know it’s going to be brilliant,” she says. “They’re very surreal and kinetic, and incorporate dance, music and physical theater into a storyline that runs through the show. And although they wouldn’t ever mention this themselves, they’re also extremely unique in that they don’t fall back on swear words or sexual innuendo. Yet their work still comes across as mature and highly intelligent.”

Tickets to the Boulder show are $15; go to www.brownpapertickets.com/event/100403 or call 1-800-838-3006. Mathieu and Connor also perform at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Bovine Metropolis Theater, 1527 Champa Street in Denver; for those tickets, $12, visit www.bovinemetropolis.com or call 303-758-4722.
