“The idea is that ultimately, there is something interesting to be celebrated about every woman in the community,” says Evan Weiss-man, organizer of tonight’s “The Reconstructionists: Celebrating Badass Women and Community Scrapbooking.” Men and women of all ages are invited to enjoy snacks and craft stories of important women in their lives in a community scrapbook during the evening, part of Weissman’s Warm Cookies of the Revolution programming. Marcelina Rivera, Lisa Farber-Miller and Michelle Gabrieloff-Parish, whom Weissman describes as local unsung heroes, will also be on hand to tell their own stories, and a camera will be set up for attendees to share life experiences.
Warm Cookies has been dubbed a “civic health club” that puts conversations about gender, politics, religion and social justice on a friendly, accessible level. Tonight’s Reconstructionist theme celebrates Women’s History Month and was inspired by Anaïs Nin’s idea that the role of women is to reconstruct the world. As always, fresh-baked vegan and gluten-free cookies will be served, along with milk of both the dairy and non-dairy varieties.
