Cirque du Soleil’s latest production, Corteo, is all about a dead clown. Or, to be more specific, a clown imagining his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere and observed by angels. “It just promises to be really cool,” notes Doatsy Peifer of Peifer Communications. “It’s a different creative team, and the actual staging is different.” That’s for sure: Set designer Jean Rabasse
has divided the Grand Chapiteau — Cirque’s famous big top — in two so that each half of the audience faces the other half, giving onlookers both a view of the performance and a performer’s-eye view of the audience. It’s bound to be yet another visually striking, over-the-top show, with 131 costumes adorning 41 characters in more than 900 different fabrics, many of them airbrushed to give them an aura of age. Admission is $31.50 to $80, or $136.50 to $195 for Tapis Rouge VIP tickets; Corteo runs through July 22 at the Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle. Visit www.cirquedusoleil.com or www.pepsicenter.com.
Fridays, Saturdays, 4 & 8 p.m.; Sundays, 1 & 5 p.m.; Tuesdays-Thursdays, 8 p.m. Starts: June 22. Continues through Aug. 5
