Getting in shape is never easy. But if you need extra motivation to exercise, how about running from a hungry, undead predator in the Vampire 5K? “People always say they’d never run unless they’re running from something,” says race co-founder Scott Jones. “And what better to run from than a ghoulish bloodsucker?”
Already in shape? Then you can choose to be a vampire and make your less-fit co-competitors wish they’d put in as many hours on the treadmill as you have. Each side will start from a different point, with the courses converging somewhere along the way. Humans will wear white, while the vampires will be clad in black — and, of course, they get to turn any humans they catch. Prizes will be awarded at the end, and the remaining living and the undead can party together — red beer and other blood-themed drinks for all! You can even just skip the race and go straight to the after-party if you love vampires but hate exercise.
The race starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Chatfield Botanic Gardens, 8500 West Deer Creek Canyon Road in Littleton. Registration is $45 ($35 for the party only) with the code REDRUNNING and includes a T-shirt — but it closes April 25, so move quickly. For registration and other information, go to vampire5k.com.
