The Rocky Mountain Rollergirls won the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association WFTDA Western Regional championships this weekend in Sacramento, CA, in a 127-86 upset over the Oly Rollers from Olympia, WA, breaking the Oly Rollers’ 22-game winning streak.
RMRG entered the tournament as the #2 seed and will advance to the 2010 WFTDA National Championships next month in Chicago, November 5-7, along with the Oly Rollers and third place finisher the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls, to face off against the top three finishers from the North Central, East and South Central Regions.
“The clash between the top seeds in the West Region turned out to be everything it was billed to be, as both long-undefeated Oly and Rocky Mountain played a very fast, very intelligent game with plenty of lead changes. In the end, though, Rocky Mountain proved the better team, and their ace DeRanged landed two huge jams in the last ten minutes that made RMRG the West Region champions.”
