Denver film fans can officially start their love affair with the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema today when the theater kicks things off with its grand-opening event, An Evening With Pam Grier. It’s a great way to introduce the Drafthouse brand to local cinemaphiles, infusing the chain’s embrace of genre film and one-of-a-kind events with a local twist.
“We feel strongly that the Alamo should have a lot of local presence,” explains Tom DeFrancia, who will run the location in Littleton, the Texas chain’s first Colorado spot. “[So] bringing in a local star was really important to us.” That made Pam Grier, a graduate of East High and a ’70s action icon, a perfect choice.
Devin Faraci of Badass Digest will present a compilation of clips from Grier’s career, with Grier providing commentary. Afterward, they’ll take questions from the audience, so you can finally ask about her character’s motivation in Women in Cages (assuming they haven’t already gotten to that during the main program). And if your memories of an evening with the first lady of action cinema aren’t enough to cherish forever, every attendee will get a souvenir to take home, as well.
