The 1st Bank Center played host to twelve of the best roller derby teams from around the country this past weekend. And although our hometown teams did not triumph in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association Championships, the Denver area definitely came out the winner for having the WFTDA games here.
Says Jerry:
I have to be the ultimate superfan, having seen my first game in 1938 and my first modern derby in 2005 (Windy City)….I hope all of you are aware that there are now 1,105 leagues in 38 countries, encompassing some 55,000 participants, and you will be seeing more and more superfans. And Colorado, you have two of the best teams in the world in Denver and more leagues per capita than any other state. By attending this great family sport, you will help these non-profit, unpaid superheroes continue to grow!
And local fans can catch more derby action this weekend, when the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls host an Air Force vs. Army Mixup Bout at the RMRG War*house, 5200 Smith Road, on November 19. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the bout at 7 p.m.; admission is $12 (kids twelve and under are free).
