When we asked poet Andrea Gibson about the significance of her poetry collection’s title, Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns, she had this to say: “One night, my girlfriend and I were outside of a music venue in Boulder. The band inside started playing gospel hymns, and the music was so gorgeous she found a lamppost and…you get the picture. I loved the image of the meshing worlds — the places we come together. It’s a repeating theme in the book.

“Creating this book had me looking at the words in an entirely new light,” she says. “It’s full of politics and love and hopefully a little humor. I’m still debating whether or not to hide it from my mother. I think that’s a good sign…for the reader, at least.”

Tonight at 8 p.m. at Trilogy Wine Bar, 2017 13th Street in Boulder, Gibson will host a hometown book-release show. Tickets to the release party are $10; call 303-473-9463 or visit www.trilogywinebar.com for
