Kids not only love to relive their own stories, but they also have the imaginations to pull it off from scratch, winging it on memory alone. That’s why My Horizon, a new exhibit of landscape works by Downtown Aurora Visual Arts students ages seven to eighteen, promises to take gallery-goers across a horizon touched by the kind of magical realism only children can create. The works, which range from three-dimensional “shrine-scapes” to digitally altered map stories, go on display at tonight’s reception from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DAVA Gallery, 1405 Florence Street in Aurora.
On the adult side of the map, DAVA will present Magic Mountains, a haunting display of photographs from Hunan, China, by Zhang Jianguo and Li Gang. The exhibit, which also opens today, is the gallery’s con-tribution to downtown Aurora’s joint art walk and Asian Film Festival celebrations taking place during the first weekend in June.
Both exhibits remain on view through July 6; call 303-367-5886 or visit www.davarts.org.
