Rhubarb? An acquired taste that sometimes needs doctoring up before it’s palatable. So is Garrison Keillor. NPR listener or not, you either love or hate the guy, but it’s his entourage that tips the scale in his favor: The laconic denizens of Lake Woebegone, fictional gumshoe Guy Noir, the stellar Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band, sound-effects master Fred Newman and such high-caliber special guests as crystal-piped Suzy Bogguss are what really make Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion radio show so eminently listenable.
And now they’ve taken to the road: A taste of each has been diced and spiced and baked into Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion “Home of the Heart” Rhubarb Tour, which moseys into Red Rocks Amphitheatre tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. From the tasteful picking of guitarist Pat Donahue to the bumbling adventures of Guy Noir, the whole rambling affair is even more fun live and under the stars; for tickets, $29 to $64, go to www.ticketmaster.com or dial up the switchboard at 303-830-TIXS.
