If you don’t eat meat, holidays like Thanksgiving — which revolve around food — can be a bit daunting, because not only do you have to deal with the typical obnoxious-relative routine, but there’s not even a plate full of goodies to concentrate on while you pretend not to hear your great-uncle asking you another intensely personal question. So events like the Thanksgiving Day Vegan Potluck are a cause for celebration, indeed.
“There are so many delicious dishes you can make without meat,” notes potluck organizer Kate Lawrence. “There’s such a variety at a vegan potluck. And one certainly does not have to be a vegan, or even a vegetarian, or know anything about alternative dishes, to come enjoy the food. If people don’t know what to bring, then a plate of fruit or a jug of apple cider is fine — but what everyone does enjoy is to see all the dishes that people put together.”
Attendees are asked to bring a vegan dish with a list of ingredients so others can see what’s in it (and avoid potential allergens) — which also makes it easy to track down the chef if you find something wonderful.
The potluck starts at 12:30 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Miracle Center, 1939 South Monroe Street; admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for kids, plus your plant-based dish. Bring your own plates and napkins if you can! Call 303-300-2368 or go to denvervegans.org for details.
