The 31st annual Crested Butte Bike Week gets underway today with Alison Gannett’s Rippin’ Chix Mountain Bike Camps for women ($35 per session; $95 for the singletrack skills workshop) and a 6 p.m. “Night at the Museum” kick-off party at the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, 331 Elk Avenue.
It’s going to take a bit of time for the “formerly Fat Tire Bike Week” festival’s new official branding to sink in: “Michelob Ultra Crested Butte Bike Week” just doesn’t have that same singletrack sing to it. Still, long-time Bike Week fans will recognize most of their favorite events: Competitors in the ever-popular Chainless World Championships, for example, drop in from the top of Kebler Pass tomorrow at 4 p.m., the Mountain States Cup Wildflower Rush runs tomorrow through Sunday, and the Bridges of the Butte 24-Hour Townie Tour starts on Saturday.
As for the famed Fat Tire 40? Its new sponsor is keeping the name: The Clif Bar Fat Tire 40 endurance race is on Sunday.
