GlobalWalker Polly Letofsky started dreaming about walking around the world when she was twelve years old. Remarkably, the young girl’s dream became the grown woman’s reality in 1999, when Letofsky embarked on what became a five-year, 14,000-mile, 22-country voyage-by-foot, with the initial goal of spreading awareness about breast cancer. Years later, the Vail resident now tells her story in an award-winning memoir, a DVD documentary and in person, through inspirational presentations.

Letofsky met plenty of obstacles and hardships along the way — earthquakes, language barriers, thieves, uprisings — but the whole meaning of her trip turned around when, while she walked through Muslim Malaysia, the events of 9/11 changed everything.
