Breckenridge Ski Resort has been celebrating its fiftieth-anniversary season this year, and the town’s annual Ullr Fest — which pays tribute to the Norse god Ullr, frequently depicted in ancient artwork as a skier — dates back almost as far.
“Ullr Fest is always one of the highlights of the year in Breckenridge, and the locals and visitors always get pretty fired up for it,” says Breckenridge spokeswoman Rachel Zerowin. “This year is the 49th annual festival, and the theme is ’49 and feeling fine.'”
The celebrations begin at 1 p.m. today with the $5 Ullr Skating Party at Stephen C. West Ice Arena. On Monday, head to Main Street Station, 505 South Main Street, for food and drinks at Ullr’s Sports Grill before catching the 5:30 p.m. coronation of the Ullr king and queen, then get fired up at the big bonfire celebration. On Tuesday, throw down in the Ullympics, a series of winter sports events starting at 6 p.m. at the Maggie Pond Restaurant (also at Main Street Station), and meet the winter lover of your dreams in the Ullr Dating Game on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Cecilia’s, 520 South Main Street.
The main event is on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., when everyone in Breckenridge gets their horns on for the annual Ullr Fest Parade, starting at the intersection of Main Street and Wellington Street.
