It’s Halloween, and you want to go see a scary movie, but you’re less than thrilled with your available choices. The Denver Film Society feels your pain, which is why, on October 30 and 31, Starz FilmCenter in the Tivoli is screening a Gruesome Twosome, featuring the flicks Murder Party and Blood Car.
Never heard of them? That’s because these are two brand-new independent films destined to become Halloween horror classics. In Murder Party, lonesome normal boy Chris finds a mysterious invitation in the street and follows it to what he thinks will be a fun costume party. Surprise! The “party” is a trap set by a group of deranged artists who want to kill someone as part of an extreme artistic event. Will Chris escape the warehouse and survive the night?
And Blood Car could be a warning for the future: Gas prices have reached $40 a gallon, and an environmentalist elementary-school teacher is looking for an alternative fuel source. He finds it accidentally, and it turns out to be blood — human blood!
The Gruesome Twosome kicks off at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $10 for both films, or pay $5.75 to $8.75 for one. Visit www.denverfilm.org or call 303-595-3456 for info.
